Music is a passion for me. I started playing drums when I was 5 years old. My dad played drums in a polka band, and would let me sit in. Looking back with today’s standards of raising children, keeping a 5 year old out late in a smoke-filled bar would probably get the attention of Social Services, but it was magic, and it got into my blood.
Early in elementary school I discovered that I could sing, too, and with the help of school choirs and high school rock bands, I developed a decent voice. A great joy for me is to sing and play drums in worship. He who sings once prays twice.
Composing came in my early twenties when original music was the ticket to getting a record deal. I wrote and played with a lot of great musicians in the Cleveland area when live music was king and clubs were hopping. Although we never got a record deal, the trip was worth the effort. Good times.
I’m currently playing drums and singing in two bands. BMZY is a straight-forward, guitar driven rock band led by Jerry Zsigo on guitar and vocals, Jim Bacha on bass and vocals, and George Yunis on Lead Vocals. We have released 5 CDs and have opened for the likes of Pat Travers, Gilby Clark, and Tim Bogart.
Swan & Misiak is a two-piece act with Tad Swan on guitar and vocals. We’ve released four albums, opened for Ambrosia, and have been featured in the Folknet concert series in Cleveland.
Up until 1984, I never thought of myself as an on-camera talent, but that was the year I wrote and recorded a parody of aerobic work out tapes. It was called Aerobeersize, the work out for beer drinkers. The song chanted the benefits of the 12 ounce curl, and finger flexing for faster TV remote usage. I walked it around to local radio and television stations.
I thought the project ran out of legs, until local B-movie host, The Ghoul, did a skit to it. I called him up to thank him, and he invited me to join the cast of his wacky show. For the year that I was on his shows, I had more than 65 on camera appearances. I was hooked. I loved being in front of the camera.
I listed with David and Lee, the best talent agency at that time in Cleveland at the time, and the rest, as the saying goes, is history. I found a second career of television and radio spots, industrial videos and voice-overs, and print work.
I am presently represented by The Docherty Agency in Cleveland and I am a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.
